Vanaf zijn eerste verschijning in 1937, heeft de Gibson's J-200 een standaard neergezet die velen hebben geprobeerd te evenaren. Vandaag de dag, bijna 71 jaar later leeft de erfenis van Gibson's "koning van de flat-tops" voort in de nieuwe J-200 standaard. Bij de invoering van de J-200 in de late jaren 30, heeft hij onmiddellijk de vraag naar een diepere, meer evenwichtige en krachtige klank beantwoord.
