John Lennon kon zijn eerste J-160E in 1962 nauwelijks betalen, waardoor de Beatles manager Brian Epstein ook moest tekenen voor de betaling. Epstein stemde in, en kon er vervolgens ook eentje voor George Harrison aanschaffen! Beide gitaren hebben rock 'n roll geschiedenis geschreven met de Beatles. Ze zijn gebruikt voor diverse studio opnames, films en live optredens. De Gibson John Lennon J-160E Peace gitaar - gemaakt in samenwerking met Yoko Ono - is een nauwkeurige recreatie van Lennon's geliefde instrument zoals hij in 1969 was, nadat hij de psychedelische schilderingen uit 1967 had verwijderd, en voordat hij tekeningen van zichzelf en Ono op de body van de gitaar tekende tijdens het legendarische "Bed-Inn" protest tegen de oorlog in Vietnam. Het hedendaagse John Lennon J-160E Peace model heeft hetzelfde 'round shoulder' body ontwerp, met een Sitka spruce top en mahonie zij- en achterblad, waarmee een volle, goed gebalanceerde rijke klank ontstaat.
