Rock Palace is a shop in the city centre of The Hague, specialised in musical instruments. In 1985 Rock Palace was opened by drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk and bass player Rinus Gerritsen of the famous band Golden Earring from The Hague. With the new shop they wanted to create a meeting place for musicians.

Over the years the shop has developed into a cultural music centre. Many famous national and international musicians, bands and artists come and visit the shop. Bløf, Krezip, Edwin Evers, De Dijk, Najib Amhali, Candy Dulfer, Jon Bon Jovi and others have played there. In turn, these big names attract young local talent, thus creating a melting pot of young and old musicians, beginners and professionals. In the shop you can hear live music almost all the time. Musicians debate, play together, discuss things and learn from one another. Many musical collaborations, new bands and music projects are formed and created in the shop.

The careers of Anouk and bands such as Kane and Di-rect started at Rock Palace. Di-rect was even co-founded by an employee of Rock Palace: Dennis van Hoorn. At the time singer and guitarist Tim Akkerman worked in the guitar department and the other three band members regularly visited Rock Palace as well. The boys started playing together, which ‘directly’ created a bond. The band name is derived from this.
