 Martin BC16GTE The BC-16GTE’s exemplary construction was immediately striking unlike cheaper ABGs that can feel boxy and stiff, the Martin felt supple and responsive. The spruce top’s gloss finish protected it against bruises, and a satin finish guarded the tight-grained mahogany sides, back, and neck. The tuners were smoother than a Kenny G record. The Martin’s ear-tickling harmonic complexity extended across its range, and the fingerboard was free of dead spots. The Martin’s deep body felt large but not unwieldy, and the bass played comfortably whether I stood or sat. Like most ABGs, the saddle placement made the neck’s lower reaches feel like a stretch—that low F seemed awfully far away at first, but it didn’t take too long to get my bearings. The larger body gave the BC-16GTE a much bigger bottom than I remembered from the 00C-16GTAE.

C.F. Martin & Co. has added the MFX130 Custom Silk and Phosphor string set to the Martin FX Flexible Core acoustic string product line. Designed for comfort and playability, the MFX130 is built on round-core wire wrapped with a silk-nylon and then finished with phosphor bronze wrap. This design results in a sweet and melodic string with playability at any fret position. The high-quality pure steel round core wire has high tensile strength to give the FX increased durability, allowing a player to stay in tune and play longer. The round core wire and custom gauging also reduces finger fatigue and permits quicker transitions from string to string. Martin issues LX Elvis model
Just when you'd thought you'd seen the last Elvis Presley model from Martin, the company has launched the LX, a smaller, modified O-style version of Martin's D-28 Elvis Presley CVR. The top, constructed HPL (high pressure laminate) material, features a leather-like guitar cover graphic in Hi Wear suede finish, replicating Elvis' original, custom, hand-tooled leather cover crafted by Charles Underwood in 1955. The back and sides are also constructed of durable yet resonant HPL material with a textured leather-like black patterned finish. The combination of HPL O-size body, with Martin's patented Style 1 crowned cross top brace, mahogany ribbons and sitka spruce back braces, produces tones of warmth, clarity and volume. A small Elvis figure and the King's signature is silk-screened on the headplate.
