De nieuwe imperial jazz elektrische semi-akoestische gitaar van de veelgeprezen gitaarbouwer Hudson. Traditioneel vormgegeven met een Venetiaanse cutaway aan de 17e fret, en 'open boek'-kop. Deze eigenschappen zag je voor het eerst op de allereerste jazz-akoestics die in de late jaren '30 geïntroduceerd werden. Het mooi tekenende mahonie is afgewerkt in chique satin, en heeft stijlvolle zwarte hardware. De Imperial speel net zo goed als hij eruit ziet, onder andere door de aandacht die aan de slanke hals en frets gegeven is. Snelle runs en bends zijn eenvoudig op de Imperial. Hudson heeft deze stijl instrumenten ontwikkeld met toevoeging van twee humbucking pickups. Dit paar klassieke pickups hebben alnico magneet structuur en een dubbele rij poles om een rijk en gebalanceerde output te geven. De geschiedenis spreekt voor zich. De ES-335 is één van de meest belangrijke gitaren aller tijden. Direct vanaf zijn introductie in 1958 als 's werelds eerste semi-hollowbody elektrische gitaar is het een steun en toeverlaat geweest voor speler die de heerlijke, ronde, rijpe klanken voor jazz en blues wilden uitbalanceren met de edge en sustain van een volbloed solidbody. Nu maakt de Gibson Custom Shop exacte kopieën van de ES-335 zoals ze de Kalamazoo fabriek verlieten in 1958. In dat jaar werden er maar 267 gemaakt, maar de originele vintage 335's groeiden langzamerhand in populariteit, met een piek in 1967 dankzij Eric Clapton, die veel gebruik maakte van een cherry ES-335 in de band Cream.

De Epiphone Casino is misschien wel het beroemdste Epiphonemodel en één van de meest invloedrijke gitaren uit de geschiedenis; die zou iedere serieuze gitarist dus eigenlijk in zijn verzameling moeten hebben. Het sprankelende geluid en de tijdloze uiterlijk zijn beroemd gemaakt door de Beatles en blijven sindsdien al bijna 50 jaar onverminderd populair. Deze thin-line hollowbody archtop is gemaakt met het traditionele gelamineerde Maple voor bovenblad, achter- en zijkanten, en een massief Mahonie hals geeft hem zijn klassieke klank die schitterend versterkt wordt door een paar authentieke Epiphone "dog ear" P-90 Classic Pickups. Andere eigenschappen zijn body- en toetsbinding rondom de palissander toets met opvallende parallelogram-inleg. Verder een witte slagplaat met het iconische E-logo en vintage-style Epiphone stemknoppen. Hij is beschikbaar in drie historische kleuren: Natural, Vintage Sunburst en Cherry.

Washburn WD32SCE groepswinnaar
Het Engelse vakblad Total Guitar testte onlangs verschillende semi-akoestische gitaren onder de 400 euro. De WD32SCE van Washburn kwam als beste uit de test! De WD32SCE werd vergeleken met de Yamaha APX500, Adam Black S-5CE en Vintage VEC380N. De naam WD32SCE staat voor Washburn Dreadnought 32 Solid Cutaway Electric...ofwel een Western gitaar met een massief bovenblad in cutaway uitvoering met ingebouwde elektronica.
Washburn bestaat in 2008 maar liefst 125 jaar. Het bedrijf uit Chicago heeft dus enorm veel ervaring in het bouwen van goede akoestische gitaren. Dat zie je ook terug bij de WD32SCE!
Volgens het blad Total Guitar is deze gitaar een ware all-rounder. Hij scoort goed op vele fronten, waaronder de volle warme toon en het voor Washburn typische slanke halsprofiel. De ingebouwde BBand pickup/ preamp maken deze gitaar ideaal voor gebruik op het podium of in de studio.
